Thermostat: Service and Repair








Remove or Disconnect

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Upper fan shroud.

^ Drain the cooling system until the radiator coolant level is below the thermostat.

3. Engine oil dipstick tube brace and the oil fill brace.
4. Studs and the coolant outlet.
5. Radiator inlet hose (upper).
6. Thermostat from its housing.
7. Gasket.

Inspect

^ Thermostat housing and coolant outlet sealing surfaces making sure they are clean.






Install or Connect

1. Thermostat into its housing.
2. Gasket into position.
3. Coolant outlet.
4. Studs and radiator inlet hose (upper).

Tighten

^ Studs to 47 Nm (35 lbs. ft.).

5. Engine oil dipstick tube brace and the oil fill brace.
6. Upper fan shroud.

^ Fill the cooling system.
^ Start the engine and run with the radiator cap removed until the radiator upper hose becomes hot (thermostat is open).
^ With the engine idling, add coolant to the radiator until the coolant level reaches the bottom of the filler neck.

7. Radiator cap to the radiator, making sure the arrows line up with the overflow tube.
8. Negative battery cable.

^ Check the system for leaks.
