1. Remove pinion flange bolts and retainers.
2. Remove propeller shaft from pinion shaft and tape bearing caps to hold in place.
3. Remove pinion shaft retaining nut and washer, Fig. 5. Mark pinion flange, pinion shaft, and pinion retaining nut to ensure proper bearing preload.
4. Using companion flange holder tool No. J-8614-01, or equivalent, remove pinion flange, Fig. 6.
5. Remove pinion seal using a blunt chisel or suitable tool.
6. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. Apply seal lubricant part No. 1050169, or equivalent, to outside of pinion flange and sealing lip of new pinion oil seal.
b. Install pinion oil seal using pinion oil seal tool No. J 33782, or equivalent.
c. Install washer and nut to same position as marked during removal, then turn an additional 1/16 inch past alignment mark.
