Defect Involved
General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1990 C/K 1500-3500 trucks. These vehicles may have a loose pivot bolt holding the brake pedal to the support bracket. In a few cases, the pivot bolt was only hand started into the bracket weld nut without engaging the locking material on the bolt. In certain other cases, the bolt was fully engaged into the weld nut, but below the specified torque. It is possible for the bolt to disengage from the nut resulting in loss of braking action. If this condition occurs while the vehicle is in motion, a vehicle crash could occur without prior warning. To prevent this condition from occurring, dealers are to torque the brake pedal pivot bolts to specification.
