1. Clean the differential case in solvent.
2. Inspect the differential case for the following conditions:

* Chips or cracks
* Damage to the bolts holes (2)
* Unusual wear, grooves or scoring
* Damaged side bearing flanges (1)
* Heat discoloration
* Worn differential pin bores (3)

3. Clean the ring gear in solvent.
4. Inspect the ring gear for the following conditions:

* Damage to the threaded holes (1)
* Unusual wear or heat discoloration to the gear teeth (2)

5. Clean the pinion flange in solvent.
6. Inspect the following differential parts excessive wear or damage:

* Inspect the pinion shaft lock bolt (2)
* Inspect the pinion shaft (1)
* Inspect the differential case (3)
* Inspect the pinion gears (8)
* Inspect the pinion gear thrust washers (7)
* Inspect the differential side gears (6)
* Inspect the differential side gear shims (5)
* Inspect the differential side gear spring washers (4)
