Parking Brake Lever: Service and Repair




Parking Brake Lever Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Remove the exhaust muffler intermediate heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement).




2. Pull the rear park brake cables forward and disengage the front park brake cable from the equalizer (1).




3. Remove the front park brake cable retainer nut (1).
4. Release the front park brake cable pass through grommet (2) from the driveline tunnel by pressing the grommet inward.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).




7. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch electrical connector.
8. Remove the park brake lever nuts (1).
9. Remove the park brake lever assembly.
Route the front park brake cable and grommet through the hole in the driveline tunnel.

Installation Procedure




1. Route the front park brake cable and grommet through the hole in the driveline tunnel.
2. Install the park brake lever assembly.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

3. Install the park brake lever nuts (1) and tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb ft).
4. Connect the park brake indicator switch electrical connector.
5. Install the front floor console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).




7. Install the front park brake cable retainer nut (1) and tighten to 7 Nm (61 lb in).
8. Seat the front park brake cable pass through grommet (2) in the driveline tunnel.




9. Pull the rear park brake cables forward and connect the front park brake cable to the equalizer (1).
10. Install the exhaust muffler intermediate heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement (Exhaust Muffler Intermediate Heat Shield Replacement).
11. Apply and release the park brake lever 3-4 times to ensure proper operation.
