Differential Cooler Replacement

Removal Procedure




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Lower and support the rear of the exhaust system.
3. Install a drain pan under the vehicle.
4. Disconnect the differential cooler pump outlet pipe from the differential cooler.




5. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler inlet pipe from the differential cooler.
6. Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe from the differential cooler.




7. Remove the differential cooler mounting bolts.

Important: Pull the differential oil cooler straight out to ensure the return pipe in the back of the differential oil cooler clears the differential housing.

8. Remove the differential cooler from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the differential cooler to the vehicle.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice.

2. Install the differential cooler mounting bolts.

Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




3. Connect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe to the differential cooler.
4. Connect the transmission fluid cooler inlet pipe to the differential cooler.




5. Connect the differential cooler pump outlet pipe to the differential cooler.
6. Fill the differential fluid. Refer to Lubricant Level Inspection - Rear Drive Axle.
7. Fill the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking for the 6L80-E transmission. Transmission Fluid Check
8. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
9. Raise and secure the rear of the exhaust system.
10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
