SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 9

DISABLING PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions.




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block cover.

IMPORTANT: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

5. Remove the SDM fuse.




6. Remove the RH I/P access hole cover.
7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the I/P module connector, located at the RH side of the I/P.
8. Disconnect the I/P module connector.




9. Remove the LH insulator panel.
10. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
11. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector.




12. Remove the CPA from the side impact module - LF connector (1), located under the driver seat.
13. Disconnect the side impact module - LF connector.

ENABLING PROCEDURE
1. Remove the key from the ignition.




2. Connect the side impact module - LF connector (1), located under the driver seat.
3. Install the CPA to the side impact module - LF connector.




4. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector.
5. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil connector located at the base of the steering column.
6. Install the LH insulator panel.




7. Connect the I/P module connector, located at the RH side of the I/P.
8. Install the CPA to the I/P module connector.
9. Install the RH I/P access hole cover.




10. Install the SDM fuse.
11. Install the LH I/P access hole cover.
12. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
13. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information. Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
