SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 1

DISABLING PROCEDURE

IMPORTANT: Refer to SIR Service Precautions.




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn OFF the ignition.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) fuse block cover.

IMPORTANT: With the SIR fuse removed and the ignition ON, the AIR BAG indicator illuminates. This is normal operation, and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

5. Remove the SDM fuse.




6. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.
7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the front end sensor harness connector (3).
8. Disconnect the front end sensor harness connector (3) from the front end sensor (1).

ENABLING PROCEDURE
1. Remove the key from the ignition.




2. Connect the front end sensor harness connector (3) to the front end sensor (1).
3. Install the CPA (2) into the front end sensor harness connector (3).
4. Install the radiator upper air baffle and deflector.




5. Install the SDM fuse.
6. Install the I/P fuse block cover.
7. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
8. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information. Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle
