Coolant Heater Replacement (3.4L)

Removal Procedure





1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Disconnect the coolant heater cord from the coolant heater.
3. Remove the engine block heater screw.
4. Remove the engine block heater.
5. Clean the engine block heater opening.

Installation Procedure





1. Apply a coat of GM P/N 12346004, (Canadian P/N 10953480) thread sealant with Teflon or equivalent to the following:
- The engine block heater seal
- The cleaned surface of the engine block heater hole
2. Position the heating element at the 3 o'clock position (2).
3. Install the engine block heater.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the engine block heater screw.
- Tighten the screw to 2 Nm (18 inch lbs.).
5. Connect the coolant heater cord to the coolant heater.
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Fill the cooling system.
