Telescope Actuator Assembly Replacement

Tools Required
^ J42640 Steering Column Anti Rotation Pin

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system.





2. Insert J42640 into the bottom of the lower trim cover.
3. Remove the driver side knee bolster trim panel.
4. Remove the following items from the jacket assembly:
4.1. retaining ring (1)
4.2. compression spring (2)
4.3. shoulder bolt (3)
4.4. housing support guide (4)
5. Disconnect the cable assembly (2) from the telescope drive motor assembly (1).





6. Remove the retaining screws from the telescope actuator assembly (3).
7. Remove the telescope drive bolt (1) and ball (2) from the actuator assembly.





8. Remove the retaining screws from the telescope adapter assembly (2).
9. Remove the telescope adapter assembly (2).

Installation Procedure





1. Install the telescope adapter assembly (2) to the jacket assembly.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the actuator retaining screws (1).
Tighten the retaining screws to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





3. Install the telescope actuator assembly (3) to the jacket assembly.
4. Install the actuator retaining screws (4).
Tighten the retaining screws to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
4.1. Install the telescope drive ball (2).
4.2. Install the telescope drive bolt (1).
Tighten the bolt to 7 Nm (62 inch lbs.).





5. Connect the cable assembly (2) to the telescope drive motor assembly (1).





6. Install the following items onto the jacket assembly:
6.1. housing support guide (4)
6.2. shoulder bolt (3)
6.3. compression spring (2)
6.4. retaining ring (1)
7. Install the driver side knee bolster trim panel.





8. Remove J42640 from the lower steering column trim cover.
9. Enable the SIR system.
