Steering Gear Component Inspection

Removal Procedure





1. Inspect for any damage on the rack gear.





2. Inspect for damage on the pinion gear and valve assembly.





3. Inspect the tie rod and ball joint.

Installation Procedure






1. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Install the pinion lock nut.
Tighten the pinion lock nut to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.).





2. Install the adjust nut and its lock nut.





3. Install the tie rod.
Tighten the tie rod to 100 Nm (75 ft. lbs.).
