Shift Lock Solenoid/Switch Assembly Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Remove the center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Console.





3. Remove the manual selector illumination lamp (1) from the shift indicator.
4. Remove 2 screws the shift indicator.
5. Reposition the shift indicator to gain access to the shift lock solenoid and the shift lock switch assembly.





6. Remove the shift lock solenoid and the shift lock switch electrical connectors (2,3) from shift lock solenoid and shift lock switch assembly.





7. Remove the 2 screws and the shift lock solenoid (2) and shift lock switch assembly (1) from the manual selector.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the shift lock solenoid (2) and shift lock switch assembly to manual selector (1). Secure with 2 screws.

Important: Upon completion of the shift lock solenoid and the shift lock switch assembly installation, perform the following steps to ensure the proper operation:
^ Temporarily install the negative (-) battery cable.
^ When the ignition switch is turned to LOCK, solenoid is NOT energized.
^ When ignition switch is turned to ON, and the brake pedal is not depressed, the solenoid is NOT energized. When ignition switch is turned to ON, and the brake pedal is depressed, the solenoid is energized.
^ Remove negative (-) battery cable.





2. Install the shift lock solenoid and shift lock switch electrical connectors (2,3) to shift lock solenoid and shift lock switch assembly.
3. Reposition the shift indicator to its original position.
4. Install the 4 screws to the shift indicator.





5. Install the manual selector illumination lamp (1) into the shift indicator (2).
6. Install the center console. Refer to Console Replacement in Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Console.
7. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
