Starter Motor Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
2. Remove the upper mounting bolt (1).
3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
4. Remove the 6 bolts and the right side splash shield.
5. Remove the starter motor electrical connector.
6. Remove the retaining nut (3) and the positive (+) battery cable from the starter solenoid.
7. Remove the lower mounting bolt (2) and the starter motor from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the starter motor to the vehicle.
2. Install the lower mounting bolt finger tight (2).
3. Lower the vehicle. Do not remove from hoist.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Install the upper mounting bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the upper mounting bolt to 37 N.m (27 lb ft).
5. Raise the vehicle.
Tighten
Tighten the lower mounting bolt to 37 N.m (27 lb ft).
6. Install the starter motor electrical connector.
7. Install the positive battery cable and the retaining nut (3) to the starter solenoid.
Tighten
Tighten the retaining nut to 8.8 N.m (78 lb in).
8. Install the right side splash shield. Secure with the 6 bolts.
9. Lower the vehicle.
10. Connect the negative (-) battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
