Operation

The CMP sensor signal rotor (2) is part of the intake camshaft (1) and has one tooth located on the outer circumference. When the CMP sensor signal rotor (2) rotates past the CMP sensor (3) a pulse is initiated in the sensor circuitry. The AC signal generated by the CMP sensor is then sent to the powertrain control module.
