Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
Condenser ReplacementREMOVAL PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: When installing a new condenser, add 60 ml (2.0 fl oz) of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system.
1. Remove the cooling fan assembly.
2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
IMPORTANT: Cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering the refrigeration system.
3. Remove the bolt (4) from the condenser inlet/outlet.
4. Slide the plate (5) counterclockwise and remove the compressor discharge (6) and the liquid (3) line from the condenser.
5. Remove one bolt (1) from each radiator support bracket.
6. Remove the brackets from the vehicle.
7. Remove the four bolts securing the condenser to the radiator support panel.
8. Lean the radiator back and pull the condenser out of the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install new O-ring lubricated with 525 Viscosity mineral oil.
2. Install the condenser to the vehicle.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Secure the condenser to the radiator support panel with tour bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the condenser bolts to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).
4. Install the radiator support brackets. Secure each bracket with one bolt (1).
Tighten
Tighten the radiator support bracket bolts to 13 N.m (10 lb ft).
5. Install the compressor discharge (6) and the liquid (3) line to the condenser. Slide the plate (5) clockwise and secure with 1 bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt (4) to 47 N.m (35 lb ft).
6. Install the cooling fan assembly.
7. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioning system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
8. Operate the A/C system and test for refrigerant leaks. Refer to Leak Testing.
