AT Range Selector Cable Replacement (AT Console Shift Control)
Removal ProcedureCaution: The automatic transaxle range selector cable is made out of two cable sections. After initial connection never separate the two metal couplings from one another. Integrity of the connection of the two metal couplings will be lost if separation of the two metal couplings occurs. When servicing the transaxle remove the cable at the automatic transaxle range selector lever and at the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket. If either section of the cable needs to be replaced, replace both of the cable sections. Loss of connection integrity of the two mete/ couplings can cause loss of transaxle shift control which could result in personal injury.
1. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from wiring harness clip(s) or retainer(s) in the engine compartment.
2. Remove the console. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators.
3. Pull the carpet back to expose the automatic transaxle range selector cable. Refer to Seats and Carpet.
4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from retaining clip(s) or retainer(s) in the passenger compartment.
5. Disengage the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer to the console shift control.
6. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable retainer from the console shift control.
7. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the console shift control.
8. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable through the hole in the cowl.
9. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the PNP switch. Refer to AT Range Selector Cable Replacement (AT PNP Switch).
