Radiator Replacement

Removal Procedure

- Tools Required
- J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers





1. Remove air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet duct.
2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.

Important: To prevent shearing of rubber bushing(s) loosen bolt(s) on engine strut(s) before swinging strut(s).

3. Remove the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar and rotate the struts and braces rearward. Refer to one of the following:
- Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Right) and Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Left) in Engine.
- Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Right) and Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Left) in Engine.

4. Remove the electric cooling fans. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement.
5. Remove the radiator bracket bolts and the radiator brackets.
6. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator inlet hose.
7. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
8. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
9. Disconnect the radiator out let hose from the radiator.
10. Remove the coolant level module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement.
11. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator. Refer to one of the following:
- AT Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Treaded Fittings) or A/T Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
- AT Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) or A/T Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

12. Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the retainer at the bottom of the radiator.





13. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the radiator mounts to the openings in the lower tie bar.
2. Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to one of the following:
- AT Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Treaded Fittings) or A/T Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T60-E
- AT Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Threaded Fittings) or A/T Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement (With Quick Connect Fittings) in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.

3. Install the coolant level module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement.
4. Connect the outlet hose to the radiator.
5. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition and install the hose clamp at the radiator outlet hose.
6. Connect the inlet hose to the radiator.
7. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition and install the hose clamp at the radiator inlet hose.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





8. Install the radiator brackets and radiator
bracket bolts.
- Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)

9. Install the electric cooling fans. Refer to Cooling Fan Replacement.
10. Install the engine mount struts to the proper position. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Right).
11. Rotate the struts and braces forward. Install the engine strut brace bolts to the upper tie bar. Refer to one of the following:
- Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Right) and Engine Mount Strut Bracket Replacement (Left) in Engine.

12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System.
13. Install the air cleaner assembly and the throttle body air inlet duct.
14. Inspect for leaks.
