Ignition Switch



REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Service and Repair
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery.
3. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Steering Column
4. Securely mount the steering column in a soft-jawed vise.





5. Use the following method in order to remove the ignition switch mounting bolts (1).
5.1. Use a hammer and a chisel in order to create slots on the top of the mounting bolts (1).
5.2. Use a screwdriver in order to remove the mounting bolts (1).
6. Turn the key in the ignition switch to the ON position or the ACC position.
7. Remove the switch from the steering column.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Position the oblong hole (3) in the steering shaft (2) so that the hole (3) is visible through and in the center of the hole (4) in the steering column.
2. Install the ignition switch to the column. Ensure that the ignition key is still in either the ON position or the ACC position.
3. Turn the ignition key to the LOCK position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.





5. Align the ignition switch hub (2) with the oblong hole (3) in the steering shaft.
6. Rotate the shaft in order to ensure that the steering shaft locks.





7. Install the 2 new breakaway head bolts (1) to the ignition switch (2). Tighten the breakaway head bolts until the heads break off.
8. Turn the ignition key to the ACC or the ON position.
9. Ensure that the shaft rotates smoothly.
10. Inspect the lock for proper operation.
11. Remove the steering column from the vise.
12. Install the steering column to the vehicle.
13. Connect the negative battery cable.
14. Enable the SIR.
