Power Steering Pump Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURENOTICE: Do not start the vehicle with any power steering gear inlet or outlet hoses disconnected. When disconnected, plug or cap all openings of components. Failure to do so could result in contamination or loss of power steering fluid and damage to the system.
1. Remove the 1 bolt retaining the high pressure hose (13) to the core support.
2. Separate the high pressure hose (13) from the high pressure pipe at the core support.
3. Loosen the hose clamp and the return hose (12) from the reservoir (15).
4. Remove the power steering pressure switch electrical connector.
5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
6. Remove the power steering pump drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine.
7. Remove the 3 bolts (3) and the air conditioning (A/C) compressor (2) from the mounting bracket (4).
Hang the A/C compressor off to the side (if equipped).
8. Remove the 4 bolts (1) retaining the power steering pump A/C mounting bracket to the engine.
9. Remove the power steering hose (12) and the bracket, with the pump (10) attached, from the engine compartment.
10. Remove the 3 bolts and the power steering pump from the mounting bracket.
11. Remove the following components from the power steering pump:
- The 1 nut
- The lock washer
- The high pressure line (13)
12. Remove the 1 hose clamp and the return hose (12) from the pump.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Secure the return hose (12) to the pump with the 1 hose clamp.
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Secure the high pressure line (13) to the pump with the 1 lock washer and the 1 nut.
Tighten the high pressure line nut to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
3. Secure the power steering pump to the mounting bracket with the 3 bolts.
Tighten the power steering pump to bracket bolts to 35 Nm (25 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the power steering pump and the A/C compressor mounting bracket (4) to the engine.
Secure the compressor with the 4 bolts (1).
Tighten the power steering pump and the A/C compressor mounting bracket to engine bolts to 46.8 - 50.4 Nm (63.7 - 68.6 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the A/C compressor (2) to the mounting bracket (4).
Secure the bracket with the 3 bolts (3).
Tighten the A/C compressor mounting bolts to 22.5 - 27.4 Nm (16.5 - 20.1 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the power steering pump drive belt.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Unplug the power steering hoses/pipes.
9. Connect the power steering pump pressure switch electrical connector to the pump.
10. Connect the return hose (12) to the steering reservoir (15).
11. Secure the high pressure hose (13) to the core support with the 1 bolt.
Do not tighten the bolt completely.
12. Install the high pressure hose (13) to the high pressure pipe (2) from the steering gear.
- Tighten the high pressure hose retaining bracket bolt to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
- Tighten the high pressure hose to the high pressure pipe flare nut to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).
13. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir (15) with new power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
14. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.
