Removal Procedure

Important: If the SIR has deployed, inspect the SIR coil assembly wire for any signs of damage due to excessive heat, such as scorching or melting. If the coil assembly is damaged, replace the coil.

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Cautions and Notices.

1. Disable the supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR).

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.

2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Place the front wheels in a straight ahead position.
4. Remove the right side trim cover from the steering wheel.
5. Remove the 2 horn wire connectors from the steering wheel.
6. Remove the 2 TORX head screws from the steering wheel.

Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:
^ Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
^ Make sure the bag opening points away from you
When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.


7. Remove the inflator module (1) from the steering wheel.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the inflator module to the steering wheel.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the 2 TORX head screws in order to secure the inflator module to the steering wheel.

Tighten
Tighten the inflator module-to-steering wheel screws to 23 N.m (17 lb ft).

3. Install the 2 horn connectors (2) and the right side steering wheel trim cover (1).
4. Connect the negative battery cable.
5. Enable the SIR.
