Fuel Pressure Regulator: Service and Repair
REMOVAL PROCEDURE1. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose (2) from the fuel pressure regulator (1).
4. Disconnect the fuel return hose (3) from the fuel pressure regulator (1).
5. Remove the two bolts from the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel rail. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel.
6. Remove the fuel pressure regulator (1) from the fuel rail (2).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Apply a thin coat of oil to the new O-ring (1).
2. Install the new O-ring (1) on the fuel pressure regulator.
3. Install the fuel pressure regulator (1) to the fuel rail (2).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
4. Secure the fuel pressure regulator to the fuel rail with two bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the two fuel pressure regulator bolts to 8-12 N.m (71-106 lb in).
5. Connect the fuel return hose (3) to the fuel pressure regulator (1) and secure with the clamp.
6. Connect the vacuum hose (2) to the fuel pressure regulator (1).
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable-to-negative battery terminal retainer to 5.5 N.m (49 lb in).
8. Turn ON the ignition, in order to pressurize the fuel system.
9. Turn OFF the ignition.
10. Check for any fuel leaks and repair as necessary.
