FRONT WHEEL HUB REMOVAL PROCEDURE^ Tools Required
- J 34866 Wheel Hub Remover
- J 2619-01 Slide Hammer
1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly.
3. Remove the brake caliper, the caliper carrier and the rotor. Refer to Brake Caliper Replacement in Disc Brakes.
4. Unstake and remove the drive axle nut and the washer.
5. Remove the hub and the outer bearing race from the knuckle using two wheel nuts (1), the J 34866 and the J 2619-01.
WHEEL HUB INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Apply a light coat of wheel bearing grease GM P/N 1051344, or the equivalent, to the outside of the hub shaft.
2. If replacing the wheel hub, refer to Wheel Bearing for outer race removal.
3. Install the hub and outer bearing race to the steering knuckle.
3.1. Tap in by using a hammer.
3.2. Place a wood block on the end of the hub in order to absorb shock from the hammer and to drive the hub into the knuckle evenly.
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the drive axle washer and nut.
Tighten the drive axle nut to 175 Nm (129 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the stake drive axle nut using a hammer and punch.
6. Install the brake rotor, the caliper carrier and the caliper.
7. Install the tire and wheel assembly (11).
8. Lower the vehicle.
WHEEL BEARING REMOVAL PROCEDURE

- J 7079-2 Non-Threaded Driver Handle
- J 41391 Tie Rod End Remover
- J 22912-01 Bearing Puller
- J 38424 Hub Race Puller Pilot
1. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Knuckle Replacement.
2. Remove the inner and outer bearing oil seals using J 26941 and J 2619-01.
3. Remove the inner race and bearing from the knuckle (1).
4. Remove one snap ring from the outer side of the steering knuckle.
5. Remove the outer bearing from the steering knuckle.
6. Remove the outer bearing race from the wheel hub. Use the J 22912-01, J 38424 and a press.
7. Support the steering knuckle. Use the J 41392.
8. Remove the bearing assembly from the knuckle. Use the J 7079-2 and the J 41391.
9. Inspect the inner and outer bearing oil seals for wear or deterioration. Replace the seals at the slightest signs of failure.
10. Inspect both bearings for wear, corrosion, and contamination by dirt or water. If any of these conditions exist, replace the bearing assembly.
WHEEL BEARING INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 36050 Wheel Hub Race Installer
1. Support the steering knuckle. Use the J 41392
2. Install the bearing assembly into the knuckle. Use the J 39722 and the J 7079-2.
3. Install the outer bearing into the steering knuckle.
4. Install one snap ring to the outer side of the steering knuckle.
5. Install the inner bearing and race into the steering knuckle (1).
6. Install the outer bearing race (1) onto the wheel hub (2). Use the J 36050. Use a press.
7. Apply the wheel bearing grease GM P/N 1051344 or the equivalent to the lip of the inner oil seal.
8. Align the hole in the seal with the hole in the steering knuckle for the wheel speed sensor, for ABS equipped vehicles.
9. Install the inner oil seal (1) to the inboard side of the knuckle. Use the J 41392 and J 7079-2.
10. Install the outer oil seal (1) to the outboard side of the steering knuckle. Use the J 39722 and J 7079-2.
11. Install the steering knuckle to the vehicle.
