Oil Pan: Service and Repair
Removal Procedure1. Raise and properly support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Place a drain pan under the engine oil pan in order to catch the oil.
3. Remove the engine oil drain plug and the gasket in order to drain the engine oil.
4. Remove the right side lower engine splash shield.
5. Remove the following from the oil pan:
^ The crank sensor bolt
^ The crank sensor (1)
^ The crank sensor harness
^ The sixteen bolts and two nuts
NOTICE: Do not damage the oil pan contact surface of the lower cylinder block when removing the oil pan.
6. Remove the engine oil pan.
7. Remove the following components from the lower cylinder block:
^ The oil strainer (2)
^ The O-ring (1)
8. Clean the following components:
^ The inside of the engine oil pan
^ The oil pump strainer screen
^ The mating surfaces of the engine oil pan and the lower cylinder block
Installation Procedure
NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
1. Install the oil pump strainer and a new O-ring to the lower cylinder block. Secure the oil pump strainer using two bolts.
Tighten the oil pump strainer to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.)
2. Apply a continuous bead of silicon sealant GM P/N 12346240 or an equivalent, to the engine oil pan mating surface (1).
3. Install the engine oil pan.
Use the following components to secure the engine oil pan:
^ Sixteen bolts
^ Two nuts
Tighten the engine oil pan bolts and the nuts to 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.)
4. Install the right side lower engine splash shield.
5. Install the engine oil drain plug and the gasket.
Tighten the engine oil drain plug to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.)
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Refill the engine oil to specifications.
8. Inspect the oil pressure.
