Steering: Service and Repair

NOTICE: If the power steering system has been serviced, an accurate fluid level reading cannot be obtained unless air is bled from the steering system. The air in the fluid may cause pump cavitation noise and may cause pump damage over a period of time.

NOTICE: When adding fluid or making a complete fluid change, always use the proper power steering fluid. Failure to use the proper fluid will cause hose and seal damage and fluid leaks.

1. Keep the vehicle level.
2. Inspect for the power steering fluid in the reservoir (6) for foaming or a milky appearance. Foaming and a milky appearance indicate either the existence of air in the system or the fluid level is too low.
If the power steering fluid is foaming or has a milky appearance, bleed the power steering system. Refer to Bleeding Power Steering System.

3. Inspect the fluid level in the reservoir (6). The fluid level should be between the MAX indicator (2) and the MIN indicator (3). Add fluid if necessary.
