Condenser HVAC: Service and Repair
Condenser ReplacementREMOVAL PROCEDURE
IMPORTANT: When installing a new condenser, add 20-30 mL (0.7-1 fl oz) of refrigerant oil to the refrigeration system.
1. Disable the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system.
2. Discharge and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
3. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
4. Remove the front bumper.
5. Disconnect the hood latch cable.
6. Slide the hood latch cable out from the hood latch assembly.
7. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the SIR forward discriminating sensor (3).
8. Disconnect the [1][2]condenser fan electrical connector.
9. Disconnect the 2 horn electrical connectors.
10. Remove 1 bolt and the horn from the vehicle:
11. Disconnect the receiver/dryer outlet-to-evaporator inlet pipe fitting (2).
12. Remove 1 nut (1) and the discharge hose (3) from the condenser.
13. Remove 6 screws and the radiator center brace (1).
14. Remove the 2 condenser mounting bolts (2).
15. Remove the condenser (1) from the vehicle.
16. Cap the refrigerant system openings in order to prevent moisture and dirt from entering the system.
17. Remove the 2 bolts (2) and the 2 screws from the condenser tan (3).
18. Remove the [1][2]condenser fan from the condenser.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the [1][2]condenser fan (3) to the condenser.
2. Secure the [1][2]condenser fan with the 2 bolts (2) and the 2 screws.
3. Install the condenser onto the radiator support.
4. Secure the condenser with the 2 bolts (2).
5. Install the radiator center brace (1) to the vehicle.
6. Secure the radiator center brace with the 6 screws.
7. Fasten the [1][2]condenser fan (3) to the center brace with the bolt (2).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
