1998 - 2000 Corvette A/T ECL Disconnect

1. Disconnect the battery.

2. Disable the SIR modules.

3. Remove the Driver's side SIR module from the steering wheel.

4. Remove the steering wheel retaining bolt.

5. Using J-42578 remove the steering wheel.

6. Remove the snap ring and SIR coil from the steering column.

7. Remove the combination trunk release and fog light switch.

8. Remove the driver's side knee bolster trim panel. This will require care when detaching as the panel tucks in behind the console trim panel at the lip.

9. Remove the wiper control stalk.

10. Remove the lower and upper steering column shrouds.

11. Remove the Steering Column Lock / Cam Orientation plate with J-38364 and discard.





12. Install the included Cam Orientation plate and secure with locking ring, using J-42137 as shown.

13 Install the SIR coil and secure with snap ring.

14. Disconnect the wire from the ECL (located on the right lower side of the steering column) to the IP main harness.





15. Route the new jumper wire and relay harness over the knee bolster (Foam and metal construction). The new relay (1) must be mounted to the left I/P brace with a zip tie as shown.

16. Connect the ends of the new jumper wire to the ECL connector and to the I/P harness connector that originally was connected to the ECL. The connectors on the jumper are specific and cannot be connected incorrectly.











IMPORTANT:
A schematic is included to aid and/or verify the proper installation of the service kit. The drawing depicts the 1998-2000 vehicles.

17. Install the lower and upper steering column shrouds.

18. Install the wiper control stalk.

19. Install the steering wheel to the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in the proper year Corvette Service Manual for proper steering wheel torque value.

20. Install the SIR module to the steering wheel.

21. Install the driver's side knee bolster trim panel.

22. Enable the SIR modules.

23. Reconnect the battery.

24. Cycle the ECL:

Depending on the position of the relay and the ECL bolt when the key is first turned on you may receive the message "Pull Key and wait 10 sec." on key-on. If you receive the warning message follow the instructions and key off and remove key from the ignition. Wait a full ten seconds and then re-insert the key and turn to the "on" position. From this point on, the ECL and relay should be synchronized.

25. Install the GM Campaign Identification Label.
