Thermostat Housing: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J38185 Spring Hose Clamp Pliers





1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the radiator outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
3. Remove the radiator outlet hose from the thermostat housing.





4. Remove the thermostat housing bolts.
5. Remove the thermostat housing and note position of thermostat.
6. Remove the thermostat.
7. Remove the thermostat housing gasket.

Installation Procedure
1. Thoroughly clean the thermostat housing and water pump gasket surfaces.





2. Install the thermostat gasket with the taper up.
3. Install the thermostat.
4. Install the thermostat housing.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the thermostat housing bolts.
^ Tighten the thermostat housing bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).





6. Install the radiator outlet hose to the thermostat housing.
7. Install the radiator outlet hose clamp at the thermostat housing.
8. Fill the cooling system.
