Accessory Power Outlet Housing - Loose

File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 99-08-49-001

Date: March, 1999

TECHNICAL

Subject:
Loose Accessory Power Outlet Housing
(Add O-Ring Seal to Cover Plug and Tighten Housing)

Models:
1999 Chevrolet Cavalier
1999 Pontiac Sunfire
without RPO DT4 (Ashtray & Cigar Lighter)

Condition
Some owners may comment that the accessory power outlet housing has become loose. The housing is located in the instrument panel on Cavalier models, and in the floor console on Sunfire models.

Cause
Tightness (fit) of the cover plug to the accessory power outlet housing may cause the customer to rotate (turn) the plug when attempting to remove it. If this occurs, the accessory power outlet housing may loosen in the instrument panel or floor console.

Correction
Install an 0-Ring seal (1) on the cover plug (2) as shown in Figure 1. For information on tightening the accessory power outlet housing in the instrument panel or floor console, see "cigar lighter" in the Instrument Panel, Gauges & Console sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual.
