Steering Wheel

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J1859-A Steering Wheel Puller

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disable the supplemental inflatable restraints (SIR) system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
3. Disconnect the horn electrical connector.





4. Remove the steering wheel nut (1).





5. Remove the steering wheel using the J1859-A.





6. Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) from the steering wheel (2).
7. Remove the steering wheel (2) from the steering column (3).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE





1. Install the steering wheel (2) to the steering column (3).
2. Connect the electrical connectors (4) to the steering wheel (2).
3. Install the steering wheel nut (1).
Tighten the steering wheel nut to 40 Nm (29 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the steering wheel module. Refer to Infl Rst Steering Wheel Module Replacement in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Air Bags and Seat Belts.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
