Intermediate Steering Shaft

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Reposition the intermediate steering shaft seal in order to gain access to the lower pinch bolt.





4. Remove the lower pinch bolt from the steering gear.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Reposition the intermediate steering shaft seal in order to gain access to the upper pinch bolt.
7. Remove the upper pinch bolt from the steering column.
8. Remove the intermediate steering shaft and the intermediate steering shaft seal from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Install the intermediate steering shaft and the intermediate steering shaft seal to the vehicle.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the upper pinch bolt to the steering column.
Tighten the bolt to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
4. Install the lower pinch bolt to the steering gear.
Tighten the bolt to 22 Nm (16 ft. lbs.).
5. Install the left tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
6. Lower the vehicle.
