Tilt Spring - Disassemble

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J41352 Modular Column Holding Fixture

1. Check the steering column for accident damage. Refer to Steering Column Accident Damage Inspection - Off Vehicle.





2. Install the steering column and J41352 into a vise.
3. Tilt the column in the "up" position

CAUTION: The spring and the spring guide are under pressure and could become a projectile. Exercise caution when removing or installing the tilt spring and the spring guide, as bodily injury may result.





4. Apply pressure onto the spring retainer (3).
5. Turn the spring retainer (3) clockwise and release to remove the spring retainer (3).
6. Remove the tilt spring (2) and the spring guide (1).
7. Remove the spring guide (1) from the tilt spring (2).
