Vacuum Reservoir HVAC: Service and Repair

The vacuum tank is located on top of the HVAC module. During heavy acceleration, the vacuum supply from the intake manifold drops. Under load conditions the following actions occur:
^ A check valve in the vacuum tank maintains vacuum conditions.
^ The vacuum operated actuators make vacuum conditions available for continuous use.

Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the instrument panel trim pad.
3. Remove the air distribution ducts.
4. Disconnect the vacuum line.
5. Remove the retaining screw.
6. Remove the vacuum tank.

Installation Procedure

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the vacuum tank.

Tighten
Tighten the screw to 1 N.m (9 lb in).

2. Connect the vacuum hoses to the tank.
3. Install the air distribution ducts.
4. Install the instrument panel.
5. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 16 N.m (12 lb ft).
