Engine Replacement - Automatic Transmission
REMOVAL PROCEDURECaution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the hood.
3. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Service and Repair.
4. Evaporate and recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating and Air Conditioning System.
5. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
6. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line at the intake manifold.
Caution: In order to avoid possible injury or vehicle damage, always replace the accelerator control cable with a NEW cable whenever you remove the engine from the vehicle.
In order to avoid cruise control cable damage, position the cable out of the way while you remove or install the engine. Do not pry or lean against the cruise control cable and do not kink the cable. You must replace a damaged cable.
7. Remove the fuel injector rail cover.
8. Remove the accelerator and the cruise control cables from the cable bracket.
9. Disconnect the engine wiring harness from the underhood engine components.
10. Remove the cruise control module.
11. Disconnect the A/C line from the accumulator.
12. Remove the drive belt.
13. Remove the surge tank.
14. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses.
15. Remove the fuel feed lines at the engine.
16. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lift Points.
17. Remove the coolant pipe assembly.
18. Remove the right side wheel and tire assembly.
19. Remove the right side splash shield.
20. Remove the engine mount strut.
21. Remove the flywheel dust cover.
22. Remove the exhaust pipe and hanger from the exhaust manifold.
23. Remove the starter.
24. Remove and support the A/C compressor.
25. Remove the A/C compressor bracket.
26. Drain the engine oil.
27. Remove the torque converter bolts.
28. Remove the transmission-to-engine support brace.
29. Remove the lower transmission-to-engine bolts.
30. Lower the vehicle.
31. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
32. Install the engine lifting device to the engine lifting eyes.
33. Remove the upper front engine mount.
34. Remove the remaining transmission-to-engine bolts.
35. Separate the engine from the transmission and lift the engine from the vehicle.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Position the engine in the vehicle.
2. Hand-tighten the upper transmission to engine bolts.
3. Install the front upper engine mount.
4. Remove the engine lifting device from the lifting eyes.
5. Remove the jack supporting the transmission.
6. Raise the vehicle.
7. Install the lower transmission-to-engine bolts.
8. Install the lower transmission-to-engine brace.
9. Install the torque converter bolts.
10. Install the A/C compressor bracket.
11. Install the A/C compressor.
12. Install the starter.
13. Install the exhaust pipe and hanger to the exhaust manifold.
14. Install the flywheel dust cover.
15. Install the engine mount strut.
16. Install the right side splash shield.
17. Install the right side wheel and tire assembly.
18. Install the coolant pipe assembly.
19. Lower the vehicle.
20. Install the fuel feed lines at the engine.
21. Connect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
22. Install the surge tank.
23. Install the fuel rail cover.
24. Install the drive belt.
25. Connect the A/C line to the accumulator.
26. Install the cruise control module.
27. Install the engine wiring harness.
Caution: In order to avoid possible injury or vehicle damage, always replace the accelerator control cable with a NEW cable whenever you remove the engine from the vehicle.
In order to avoid cruise control cable damage, position the cable out of the way while you remove or install the engine. Do not pry or lean against the cruise control cable and do not kink the cable. You must replace a damaged cable.
28. Install the accelerator and the cruise control cable
29. Connect the brake booster vacuum line at the manifold.
30. Install the air cleaner assembly.
31. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Service and Repair.
32. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging in Heating and Air Conditioning System.
33. Install the hood.
34. Connect the battery cable.
35. Start the engine and check for leaks.
36. Check all of the fluid levels.
