Radio/Audio System Operation

HOW TO ENJOY FM STEREO
Select stations within range. You will obtain the best FM fidelity from stations within a 16.1-64.5 km (10-40 mile) range. Beyond the 16.1-64.5 km (10-40 mile) range, the following disturbances may begin to appear due to the range limitations of FM signals:
- Static
- Flutter

The solution to range limitations is to reduce the treble in fringe areas.

Tall structures may interfere with radio reception. Tall structures may cause "shadow" or cancellation of FM signals. The condition is similar to the effects of airplanes on television reception. FM shadows sound like a pop or a momentary hiss.

The solution for tall structure interference is to reduce one of the following settings to a lower level:
- The treble
- The 10K setting

Stations may occasionally interfere with each other. Although Delco(R) receivers use the most advanced available circuits, in rare instances another station will interfere with the tuned station. The interference only happens under the following circumstances:
- When the two stations are on almost the same frequency
- When certain geographical criteria are present The solution for station interference is to select another station or switch to the cassette tape player.

HOW TO ENJOY AM
AM does not have the flutter characteristics of FM. FM flutter characteristics are caused by the following obstructions:
- Tall buildings
- Hills

AM is subject to interference from the following sources:
- Power lines
- Neon signs
- Atmospheric conditions
- Unwanted stations

In order to reduce noise, perform one of the following steps:
- Lower the treble control.
- Tune the radio to a stronger station.
