Lights - DRL Will Not Turn OFF with I/P Switch

File In Section: 8 - Chassis/Body Electrical

Bulletin No.: 73-82-09

Date: July, 1997

Subject:
DRL Will Not Turn Off with lip Switch After Special Procedure is Performed (Install Correct Switch)

Model:
1997 Chevrolet Lumina
(Police/Taxi Vehicles Only)

Important

^ This bulletin applies only to police vehicles (9C3 Option) and taxi cabs (9C6 Option) with 7Z9 Cluster. The 7Z9 cluster is standard on police cars.

^ If an additional procedure, supplied by Fleet Sales, is performed, the DRL will also turn off with the cluster lights (this feature is called surveillance mode).

Condition

Some drivers of the above listed vehicles may comment that the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) do not turn off with the cluster lights, when using the dash mounted switch. This switch is part of the 7Z9 digital cluster and allows the cluster and radio illumination to be turned off.

Cause

An incorrect switch assembly was installed in early production vehicles which does not allow the DRL to turn off.

Correction

Replace the switch assembly with P/N 10285345. Follow the instructions on page 8C-22 (Accessory Switch with SEO 9C3) of the Service Manual. The wiring is shown on page 8A-102-0.
