Input Shaft, Mainshaft, and Countershaft
^ Tools Required:- J 8001 Dial Indicator Set
- J 39444-1 Countershaft End Play Rod
- Or Equivalent
1. Rotate the transmission adapter plate to the vertical position.
2. Install the following assemblies:
a. The input shaft to the adapter plate
b. The 4TH speed gear blocking ring
c. The mainshaft assembly
d. The countershaft (Lift up the mainshaft enough to install the countershaft.)
3. Install the transmission case.
4. Install the adapter plate to transmission case bolts.
- Tighten the bolts to 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).
5. Measure the input shaft/mainshaft end play using the following procedure:
a. Place the tip of the J 8001 on the end of the mainshaft.
b. Move the input shaft up and down.
c. Record the measurement.
6. Select a shim to achieve 0.00-0.05 mm (0.000-0.002 inch) preload.
7. Remove the J 8001.
8. Remove the adapter plate plug.
9. Place the tip of the J 8001 on the end of the countershaft.
10. Measure the countershaft end play using the following procedure:
a. Install the J 39444-1 through the adapter plate plug hole. Screw the J 39444-1 into the countershaft.
b. Move the countershaft up and down with the countershaft end play rod J 39444-1.
c. Record the measurement.
11. Select a shim to achieve 0.00-0.05 mm (0.000-0.002 inch) preload.
12. Remove the J 8001.
13. Remove the J 39444-1.
14. Remove the adapter plate to the transmission case bolts.
15. Remove the transmission case.
16. Remove the following parts:
a. The countershaft (Lift up the mainshaft enough to remove the countershaft).
b. The mainshaft assembly
c. The 4TH speed gear blocking ring and the input shaft from the adapter plate
d. The input shaft bearing race
e. The countershaft bearing race
