Ring Gear and Differential Case Disassemble
^ Tools Required:- J 42159 Right Side Differential Bearing Remover
- J 42162 Side Gear Compressor
1. Remove the ring gear bolts.
2. Using a punch and hammer unseat the ring gear from the differential case assembly.
3. Remove the right differential side bearing from the right differential case using J 42159, J 42162 and a hydraulic press. Discard the bearing.
4. Remove the differential case assembly bolts.
5. Remove the right differential case from the left differential case.
6. Remove the left output shaft from the left differential case.
Important: Keep the stack of plates and disks intact and in exactly the same position while they are being removed.
7. Remove the left clutch pack from the left differential case.
Important: Inspect the clutch plates and disks. If any one plate or disk in either the left or right pack show signs of wear or scoring replace the complete pack on both sides.
8. Tag the clutch pack to indicate the position it was removed from.
9. Remove the left differential side bearing from the left differential case using J 42162, V-blocks and a hydraulic press.
10. Remove the C-clip from left output shaft.
11. Remove the left output shaft from the left side gear.
12. Remove the cross pin from right differential case using J 42162 and a hydraulic press.
13. Remove the spider gears and output shaft from right differential case.
Important: Keep the stack of plates and disks intact and in exactly the same position while they are being removed.
14. Remove the right clutch pack from the right differential case.
Important: Inspect the clutch plates and disks. If any one plate or disk in either the left or right pack show signs of wear or scoring replace the complete pack on both sides.
15. Tag the clutch pack to indicate the position it was removed from.
