Drive Pinion Shim Selection
^ Tools Required:- J 42168-1 Gauge Cylinder
- J 42168-2 Gauge Block
- J 42168-9 Strap
- J 42168-12 Plug
1. Install J 42168-1 and J 42168-9 in the differential carrier in the left side bearing ace location.
2. Install J 42168-2 and J 42168-12 in the differential carrier in the drive pinion cartridge location.
3. Using a feeler gauge measure the distance from the tip of J 42168-1 to the J 42168-2.
4. Subtract measured value from 2.75 mm (0.10826 in). This is the shim thickness required if the pinion gear has a zero (0) stamped on the end. Refer to the pinion shim selection chart for available shim sizes. Drive Pinion Shim Sizes
Important: If the pinion gear has a plus (+) or minus (-) number stamped on the end, the shim thickness must be adjusted by that amount.
5. Remove J 42168-1 and J 42168-9 from the differential carrier.
6. Remove J 42168-2 and J 42168-12 from the differential carrier.
