Steering Wheel Dimensional Check
^ Tools Required- J 22364-01
1. Remove the inflator module from the steering wheel. Refer to Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Driver Inflator Module). Steering Wheel
2. Remove the steering wheel from the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
3. Place the steering wheel face down on a flat, level surface as shown.
4. Place a steel measuring rule (1) through the steering wheel-to-upper steering shaft mounting hole, and onto the flat surface.
5. Measure the distance between the steering wheel rim and the top of the steering wheel-to-upper steering shaft mounting flange.
- If the measurement is not 152 mm +/- 2 mm (5.98 in +/- 0.08 in), replace the steering wheel.
6. Turn the steering wheel over so that the steering wheel is resting on the flat surface with the rim up.
7. Using a drum-to-brake shoe clearance gauge, carefully measure the diameter of the steering wheel in three places, (1 and 3), (2 and 5), and (3 and 6), as shown.
- If the measurement is not 380 mm +/- 3 mm (14.96 in +/- O.12 in) in all three places, replace the steering wheel.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement.
2. Install the inflator module onto the steering wheel. Refer to Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (Driver Inflator Module). Steering Wheel
3. Perform the SIR Diagnostic System Check.
