Tilt Wheel Spring

Removal Procedure
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts.
2. Repeat steps 1 through 9 in the Upper Shroud, Lower Shroud Removal Procedure. Refer to Steering Column Shrouds.





3. Use the tilt lever to tilt the column to the up position.





4. Perform the following steps to remove the tilt spring:
a. Pry the spring up until a bulge occurs.
b. The spring tension is mostly removed.
c. Secure the spring with locking pliers.
d. Continue to pry until the spring disengages from the post on the steering column support assembly and the column tilt head assembly.





5. Remove the spring guide from the tilt spring.

Installation Procedure
1. Install the spring guide to the tilt spring.
2. Perform the following steps to install the tilt spring with the guide:
a. Install the spring to the post on the steering column support assembly.
b. Secure the spring with locking pliers.
c. With end of spring on the post; pull on the center of the spring while pushing the guide end to the post on the steering column tilt head assembly.
d. With both ends installed to the post; push the spring into position.
3. Repeat steps 1 through 11 in the Upper Shroud, Lower Shroud Installation Procedure. Refer to Steering Column Shrouds.
4. Complete all service operations.
5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts.
