Water Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL





1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.





2. Disconnect the intake air temperature sensor connector.
3. Disconnect the manifold absolute pressure sensor connector.
4. Remove the fuel regulator purge line from the air intake duct.





5. Remove the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.
6. Remove the drive belts. See Engine.
7. Drain the cooling system.





8. Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hose clamps from the water pump.
9. Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hoses from the water pump.





10. Remove the heater hose clamps from the water pump.
11. Remove the heater hoses from the water pump.





12. Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
13. Remove the water pump pulley.





14. Remove six water coolant retaining bolts from the engine block.
15. Remove the water pump.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the new water pump gaskets with the tabs up.





2. Install the water pump to the engine block.
3. Install the water pump bolts on the engine block. Tighten the water pump bolts to 41 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).





4. Install the water pump pulley.
5. Install the water pump pulley bolts.
a. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts a first pass evenly to 10 Nm (89 Nm inch lbs.).
b. Tighten the water pump pulley bolts a final pass to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





6. Install the heater hoses on the water pump.
7. Install the heater hose clamps on the water pump.





8. Install the radiator inlet and outlet hoses on the water pump.
9. Install the radiator inlet and outlet radiator hose clamps on the water pump.
10. Fill the cooling system.
11. Install the drive belts. See Engine.





12. Install the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.
13. Install the fuel regulator purge line to the air intake duct.





14. Connect the manifold absolute pressure sensor connector.
15. Connect the intake air temperature sensor connector.
16. Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
17. Start the engine.
18. Inspect the pump for leaks.
