16. Crankshaft and Bearings
CRANKSHAFT AND BEARINGS^ Tools Required, or equivalent

J 6125-1B Slide Hammer
NOTE: Crankshaft bearing caps are machined with the engine block for the proper clearances. Mark or identify each crankshaft bearing cap location and direction before removal. Crankshaft bearing caps MUST be installed to their original position and direction. Do not reuse the bearing cap M8 side bolts. Remove the bearing cap M8 side bolts prior to cap removal.
1. Remove the crankshaft bearing cap M8 side bolts.
2. Remove the bearing cap M10 bolts and studs. Note the M10 stud locations.
3. Install the crankshaft bearing cap remover. Tighten the crankshaft bearing cap remover bolts to 11 Nm (100 inch lbs.).
4. Install the slide hammer to the crankshaft bearing cap remover in order to remove the crankshaft bearing caps.
5. Remove the bearing caps.
6. Remove the crankshaft.
CAUTION: Use care when handling the crankshaft. Avoid damage to the crankshaft position sensor reactor ring teeth. Nicks, burrs or other damage to the teeth may effect OBD II system performance.
7. Lay the crankshaft onto two wooden V-blocks or other protective surface.
8. Remove the crankshaft bearings from the bearing caps and the engine block.
9. Mark, sort, or organize the crankshaft bearings so they may be installed to their original position and location.
