14. Timing Chain and Sprockets and Camshaft

TOOL REQUIRED
^ J 8433 / J 21427-01 Pulley Puller
^ J 41816-2 Crankshaft Pilot
^ J 41558 Crankshaft Sprocket Remover

TIMING CHAIN AND SPROCKETS
CAUTION: Do not turn the crankshaft assembly after the timing chain has been removed in order to prevent damage to the piston assemblies or the valves.





1. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolts.
2. Remove the camshaft sprocket and timing chain.





3. Remove the crankshaft sprocket.





4. Use the pulley puller, the crankshaft pilot, and the crankshaft sprocket remover in order to remove the crankshaft sprocket.





5. Remove the crankshaft sprocket key (if required).

CAMSHAFT





1. Remove the camshaft sensor bolt and the sensor.





2. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts and the retainer.

CAUTION: All camshaft journals are the same diameter so care must be used in removing the camshaft to avoid damage to the bearings.

3. Remove the camshaft.
a. Install the three M3-1.25 x 100 mm bolts in the camshaft front bolt holes.
b. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the engine block.
c. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.
