Painting Polypropylene Plastic Parts
NOTE: Polypropylene service parts must be primed with a coating of special polypropylene primer according to the factory recommendations. Failure to use the required primer as directed will result in color coat lift/peeling problems. Use polypropylene Primer GM P/N 10522364 or equivalent.The system for painting polypropylene parts involves the use of a special primer.
Polypropylene plastic is hard, it can be color coated after prime with a convention interior acrylic lacquer.
1. Wash the part with a solvent such as Acryli-Clean(R), Pre-Kleano(R), Prep-Sol(R), or an equivalent following the manufacturer's directions for usage.
2. Apply a thin wet coat of polypropylene primer according to the label directions:
^ Observe the gloss reflection of the spray under adequate lighting in order to determine the wetness.
^ Be sure to include all edges.
^ Allow the primer to flash dry while applying the color for best adhesion.
Specifications
Flash dry time: 1-10 minutes
3. During the primer flash time apply conventional interior acrylic lacquer color as required.
4. Allow the surface to dry before installing the part.
