Engine Removal

1. Recover the air conditioning system. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect the positive battery cable.
4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
5. Remove the front wheels and tires.
6. Drain the coolant. See Cooling System.
7. Drain the engine oil.
8. Remove the oxidation catalytic converter. See Powertrain Management.
9. For the automatic transmission, remove the torque converter bolts.
10. Remove the front fascia lower deflectors. See Body and Frame.
11. Remove the stabilizer bar bolts. see Steering and Suspension.
12. Remove the accessory drive belt.
13. Remove the air conditioning hose from the condenser and the compressor. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
14. For the automatic transmission, remove the transmission fluid cooler lines from the radiator.
15. Remove the lower radiator hose from the radiator. See Cooling System.
16. Remove the lower heater hose from the water pump. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
17. Remove the electrical ground straps from the right side of the engine block.
18. Remove the shift linkage from the transmission.
19. Remove the propeller shaft after match marking. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
20. Remove the torque arm from the transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
21. Remove the intermediate steering shaft from the rack and pinion. See Steering and Suspension.
22. Remove the electrical ground straps from the left side of the frame rail.
23. Remove the electrical connectors from the wheel speed sensors.
24. Lower the vehicle.
25. Remove the air intake duct.
26. Remove the fuel lines from the fuel rail.
27. Remove the accelerator control/cruise control servo cable adjuster. See Cruise Control.
28. Remove the cruise and accelerator control cables from the throttle body.
29. Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses from the water pump. See Cooling System.
30. Remove the brake booster vacuum hose.
31. Remove the upper heater hose from the water pump. See Cooling System.
32. Remove the engine coolant air bleed pipe hose from the radiator. See Cooling System.
33. Remove the air conditioning receiver and the dehydrator hose from the condenser. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
34. Remove the air conditioning hose from the expansion tube. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
35. Remove the brake lines from the Antilock Brake System (ABS) brake combination valve. See Brakes and Traction Control.
36. Remove the power steering reservoir and reposition. See Steering and Suspension.
37. Remove the brake lines and the clips from the ABS hydraulic modulator. See Brakes and Traction Control.
38. Remove the right-hand body hinge pillar trim panel. See Body and Frame.
39. Remove the three engine wiring harness connectors (Blue, black, white connectors) and the evaporator temperature sensor connector.
40. Remove the forward lamp wiring harness connectors.
41. Remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and harness. Place the PCM and the harness on top of the engine.
42. Remove the engine wire harness through the front of the dash.
43. Place the harness on top of the engine.
44. Remove the positive lead at the generator.
45. Remove the positive load at the junction block.
46. Remove the negative iced at the mounting stud, located next to the junction block.
47. Remove the lower shock attachment bolts and the nuts from the lower control arm.
48. Remove the upper control arm, ball stud from the steering knuckle. See Steering and Suspension.
49. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
50. Position the lift table under the engine and the front crossmember.
51. Remove the front crossmember and the transmission support bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
52. Raise the vehicle from the front crossmember engine and the transmission.
53. Secure the struts to the front crossmember.
54. Remove the transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
55. Remove the clutch housing and the clutch from the manual transmission, if equipped. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
56. Remove the power steering lines from the power steering pump. See Steering and Suspension.
57. Remove the hoses from the air conditioning compressor. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
58. Remove the air conditioning compressor bolts and the compressor. See Heating and Air Conditioning.





59. Remove the engine mount through bolts.
60. Remove the engine from the front crossmember.
