Engine Installation
1. Install the engine to the front crossmember.2. Install the engine mount through bolts.
3. Install the power steering lines to the power steering pump. See Steering and Suspension.
4. Install the air conditioning compressor and the bolts. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
5. Install the hoses to the air conditioning compressor. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
6. Install the clutch housing and the clutch, if removed.
7. Install the transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
8. Position the engine lift table and install the engine, transmission and the engine frame by lowering the vehicle to the front crossmember.
9. Install the front crossmember and the transmission support bolts. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
10. Remove the engine lift table.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Install the upper control arm ball stud to the steering knuckle. See Steering and Suspension.
13. Install the lower shock attachment bolts and nuts to the lower control arm.
14. Install the negative lead at the mounting stud, located next to the junction block.
15. Install the positive lead at the generator.
CAUTION: When reinstalling the engine wiring harness back through the front of the dash, the rubber grommet must be installed properly to ensure correct sealing. Replace the grommet if the grommet is torn or damaged.
16. Install the engine wire harness through the front of the dash.
17. Install the PCM and the harness.
18. Install the forward tamp harness connectors.
19. Install the wiring harness connectors.
20. Install the right-hand body hinge pillar trim panes. See Body and Frame.
21. Install the brake lines and the clips to the ABS hydraulic modulator. See Brakes and Traction Control.
22. Install the brake lines to the ABS brake combination valve. See Brakes and Traction Control.
23. Install the air conditioning hose to the expansion tube. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
24. Install the air conditioning receiver and the dehydrator hose to the condenser. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
25. Install the engine coolant air bleed pipe hose to the radiator. See Cooling System.
26. Install the brake booster vacuum hose.
27. Install the upper and lower radiator hose to the water pump. See Cooling System.
28. Install the accelerator control/cruise control servo cable adjuster. See Cruise Control.
29. Install the cruise and the accelerator control cables to the throttle body.
30. Install the fuel lines to the fuel rail.
31. Raise and suitably support the vehicle.
32. Install the electrical connectors to the wheel speed sensor.
33. Install the electrical ground straps to the left side of the frame rail.
34. Install the intermediate steering shaft to rack and pinion. See Steering and Suspension.
35. Install the torque arm to transmission. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
36. Install the propeller shaft. See Transmission and Drivetrain.
37. Install the shift linkage to the transmission.
38. Instant the electrical ground straps to the right side of the engine block.
39. Install the tower heater hose to the water pump. See Cooling System.
40. Install the tower radiator hose to the radiator. See Cooling System.
41. For the automatic transmission, install the transmission fluid cooler lines to radiator.
42. Install the accessory drive belt.
43. Install the air conditioning hose to the condenser and the compressor. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
44. Install the stabilizer bar bolts. See Steering and Suspension.
45. Install the front fascia tower deflectors. See Body and Frame.
46. Install the torque converter bolts on an automatic transmission engine.
47. Install the oxidation catalytic converter. See Powertrain Management.
48. Lower the vehicle.
49. Refit with engine oil.
50. Refill with engine coolant. See Cooling System.
51. Install the front wheels and tires.
52. Connect the positive battery cable. Tighten the positive battery cable to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
53. Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.).
54. Bleed the brake system. See Brakes and Traction Control.
55. Bleed the power steering system. See Steering and Suspension.
56. Charge the air conditioning system. See Heating and Air Conditioning.
57. Install the air intake duct.
58. Align the wheels. See Steering and Suspension.
