Valve Spring: Service and Repair
Tools Required, or equivalent:^ J 22794 Spark Plug Port Adapter
^ J 5892-D Valve Spring Compressor (Head On)
REMOVAL
1. Remove the valve rocker amps and the pushrods at the cylinder to be serviced.
2. Remove the spark plug at the cylinder to be serviced.
3. Install the Spark Plug Port Adapter to the spark plug hole and apply compressed air in order to hold the valves in place.
4. Compress the valve spring using the Valve Spring Compressor.
5. Remove the valve stem keys.
6. Remove the valve spring cap.
7. Remove the valve spring.
8. Remove the valve stem oil seal.
INSTALLATION
1. Install the valve stem oil seal on to the valve guide.
2. Install the valve spring.
3. Install the valve spring cap.
4. Compress the valve spring using the Valve Spring Compressor.
5. Install the valve stem keys as follows:
a. Use grease in order to hold the keys in place while disconnecting the Valve Spring Compressor.
b. Remove the Spark Plug Port Adapter.
c. Ensure the keys seat properly in the upper groove of the valve stem.
d. Tap the end of the stem with a plastic faced hammer to seat the keys, if necessary.
e. Install the spark plug. Tighten the spark plug to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the valve rocker arms and the pushrods.
