Radiator Cap: Testing and Inspection

NOTE: Inspect radiator cap for a weak spring washer or damage to the gasket. If the spring washer is weak or the gasket is damaged, replace the radiator cap. Inspect inner sealing surface of radiator neck for damage or debris.

Pressure Test
1. Clean radiator fill cap.
2. Install radiator cap on Cooling System Tester.
3. Pump pressure tester slowly to obtain minimum holding pressure.
a. If cap fails to hold 83 kPa (12 psi), replace cap.
b. If installing new cap, coat gasket with engine coolant.
