Front Disc Brake Inner And Outer Pad Inspection:

INSPECT
- Pads at least twice a year when the wheels are removed (tire rotation, etc.). When inspecting front disc brakes, check both ends of the outer pad by looking in at each end of the caliper. These are the points at which the highest rate of wear normally occurs. Also, check the thickness of the inner pad to make sure that it has not worn prematurely. Look through the hole in the top of the caliper to view the inner pad. Pads should be replaced when the thickness is worn to within 0.76 mm (0.030 inch) of the shoe. All pads should be replaced in axle sets. All front disc brakes have a wear indicator that makes a noise when the pads wear to a degree where replacement is required. The wear indicator is an integral part of the outer pad. When the pad is worn, the clip indicator contacts the rotor and produces a warning noise.

MEASURE
- Flatness of inner and outer pads. Place pad surfaces together and check for gap between surfaces. If more than 0.13 mm (0.005 inch) gap is measured midway between attaching lugs, pads must be replaced.
