Pad Replacement
Front Brake Caliper:
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Front brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
Removing Outer Brake Pad:
2. Outer brake pad (5). Use a screwdriver to disengage clips on pad from holes in caliper housing.
Front Disc Brake Inner And Outer Pads:
3. Inner brake pad (7). Wipe outside surface of caliper piston boot (8) with denatured alcohol.
Compressing Front Brake Caliper Piston:
Lifting Front Brake Caliper Piston Boot:
NOTE: Push caliper piston (9) into housing bore. Using a large C-clamp positioned on the caliper housing (12) and inside the piston well. Tighten the clamp slowly to press the caliper piston (9) into the housing bore. With the caliper piston (9) bottomed in the housing bore, lift the inner edge of the piston boot (8) next to the piston (9) and press out any trapped air. Piston boot (8) must lay flat.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
Installing Front Disc Brake Inner Pad:
1. Inner brake pad (7).
a. Inner brake pad retainer spring into caliper piston (9). The retainer spring is staked to the inner brake pad (7).
b. Inner brake pad (7) must lay flat against caliper piston (9). Check that piston boot (8) and inner brake pad (7) are not touching. If there is contact, remove inner pad (7) and reseat or reposition piston boot (8).
c. Brake Inner Pad
Installing Front Disc Brake Outer Pad:
2. Outer brake pad (5).
a. Back of outer brake pad (5) must lay flat against caliper housing (12).
b. Wear sensor should be at trailing edge of outer brake pad (5) during forward wheel rotation. If not, outer brake pad (5) is on wrong side.
3. Front brake caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement.
4. Apply approximately 778 N (175 pounds) of force to brake pedal three times to seat brake pads.
NOTE: GM replacement brake pads are recommended for all GM vehicles to maintain the balance between front and rear brake performance. GM replacement brake parts have been carefully selected to provide the proper brake balance for purposes of both stopping distance and controllability over the full range of operating conditions. Installation of front or rear brake pads other than GM replacement parts can change the intended brake balance of this vehicle.
